US-amerikanische und russische Beamte haben über eine potenzielle Rolle für US-Investoren bei den Nord Stream-Pipelines gesprochen, die einst russisches Gas nach Deutschland transportierten, so fünf mit den Gesprächen vertraute Personen.

Die Diskussionen betreffen den US-Sonderbeauftragten Jared Kushner und den russischen Präsidentschaftsbeauftragten Kirill Dmitrijew. Die Idee ist mit umfassenderen Bemühungen zur Beendigung des Ukraine-Krieges und zur Schaffung von Geschäftsanreizen für zukünftige Energieströme verknüpft.

Was ist passiert?

Kushner und Dmitrijew haben sich in den letzten Wochen in Moskau und New York getroffen. Zwei Quellen sagten, Nord Stream bleibe auf der Agenda, obwohl unklar ist, wie intensiv die beiden während dieser Treffen über die Pipelines gesprochen haben.

Das Weiße Haus erklärte, dass an jedem Deal die US International Development Finance Corporation und das Finanzministerium beteiligt sein müssten und er US-Steuerzahlern und -Unternehmen zugutekommen müsste. Es hieß auch, es habe „in letzter Zeit keine Diskussionen über Nord Stream“ gegeben.

Vor dem russischen Einmarsch in die Ukraine im Februar 2022 bezog Deutschland mehr als die Hälfte seines Gases aus Russland über Nord Stream. Die Pipelines wurden stillgelegt, nachdem Moskau die Lieferungen drosselte, und wurden später im September 2022 durch Unterwasserexplosionen beschädigt.

Warum es für Trader wichtig ist

Nord Stream unterliegt derzeit Sanktionen der USA und der EU, was einen Neustart ohne grundlegende politische Änderungen illegal macht. Auch Deutschland lehnt eine Wiedereröffnung der Pipelines ab und erklärt, alternative Energiequellen gefunden zu haben.

Trump könnte die US-Sanktionen lockern, aber ein Sieg der Demokraten bei den Zwischenwahlen im nächsten Monat könnte dies erschweren.

Für die Energiemärkte könnte jeder Fortschritt die europäischen Gaspreise, die ölbezogene Marktstimmung und den Euro wieder in den Fokus rücken.

Was als Nächstes zu beachten ist

Die entscheidende Frage ist, ob Washington von Sondierungsgesprächen zu Sanktionserleichterungen oder einem Investitionsabkommen übergeht. Das Eigentum ist eine weitere Hürde: Gazprom hält 51 % an Nord Stream, während deutsche, französische und niederländische Unternehmen den Rest halten.
