Ein hochrangiger iranischer Regierungsvertreter erklärte gegenüber Reuters, Teheran habe kein Interesse an dem Vorschlag Omans, der eine gemeinsame Verwaltung der Straße von Hormus mit freiwilligen Gebühren für vorbeifahrende Schiffe vorgesehen hätte. Der Iran besteht darauf, dass die einlaufende Route und ein Teil der auslaufenden Route unter seiner Kontrolle bleiben müssen.

Der Beamte warf den Vereinigten Staaten und Saudi-Arabien zudem vor, Druck auf den Oman auszuüben, um Pläne zu fördern, die Teheran als unrealistisch bezeichnete.

Die iranischen Revolutionsgarden (IRGC) gaben an, drei Öltanker gestoppt zu haben, nachdem die Schiffe angeblich Warnungen ignoriert und eine ihrer Ansicht nach unsichere und illegale Route benutzt hatten. Reuters konnte diese Behauptung nicht unabhängig überprüfen.

Unterdessen flogen die USA und Saudi-Arabien Angriffe auf vom Iran unterstützte Gruppen im Osten des Iraks und machten diese für Drohnenangriffe auf saudische Ölanlagen verantwortlich. Der Iran bestritt eine Beteiligung und warnte, dass eine Schuldzuweisung an Teheran ein „schwerer Fehlkalkül“ wäre.

Die Ölpreise stiegen um mehr als $3 pro Barrel, da die jüngste Eskalation die Sorge um die Energieversorgung verstärkte.
