Varios proyectos importantes aún tardarán años. MP Materials prevé las primeras entregas de imanes a General Motors a finales de este año, mientras que las instalaciones respaldadas por el Pentágono y otros proyectos de refinación están programados para entrar en funcionamiento entre 2027 y 2030.

La administración Trump también ha lanzado el Proyecto Vault, un programa de 12.000 millones de dólares para almacenar minerales críticos, y los funcionarios reconocen que las primeras compras aún pueden incluir material procedente de China.

Los minerales críticos son esenciales para equipos militares, vehículos eléctricos, electrónica y fabricación avanzada. Hasta que se expanda la producción de EE.
