Un haut responsable iranien a déclaré à Reuters que Téhéran n'avait aucun intérêt pour la proposition d'Oman, qui aurait introduit une gestion partagée du détroit d'Hormuz avec des frais volontaires pour les navires de passage. L'Iran maintient que la route d'entrée et une partie de la route de sortie doivent rester sous son contrôle.

Le responsable a également accusé les États-Unis et l'Arabie saoudite de faire pression sur Oman pour promouvoir ce que Téhéran a qualifié de plans irréalistes.

Le Corps des gardiens de la révolution islamique d'Iran (CGRI) a déclaré avoir arrêté trois pétroliers après que les navires auraient ignoré les avertissements et emprunté ce qu'il a appelé une route dangereuse et illégale. Reuters n'a pas pu vérifier cette affirmation de manière indépendante.

Pendant ce temps, les États-Unis et l'Arabie saoudite ont lancé des frappes contre des groupes soutenus par l'Iran dans l'est de l'Irak, affirmant qu'ils étaient responsables d'attaques de drones contre des installations pétrolières saoudiennes. L'Iran a nié toute implication et a prévenu que blâmer Téhéran serait une « erreur de calcul majeure ».

Les prix du pétrole ont grimpé de plus de $3 par baril alors que cette dernière escalade accentue les inquiétudes concernant l'approvisionnement en énergie.
