Frappes de l'Iran, flambée du pétrole, chute de l'or : tout cela en un seul week-end

La hausse des prix du pétrole et les attentes croissantes d'une augmentation des taux d'intérêt américains exercent une nouvelle pression sur l'or.

L'or a accentué son repli lundi après que de nouvelles actions militaires entre les États-Unis et l'Iran ont poussé les prix du pétrole à la hausse, alimentant les inquiétudes concernant l'inflation et réduisant la demande pour le métal précieux.

L'or au comptant a reculé de 0,6 % à $4,062.89 l'once, tandis que les contrats à terme sur l'or américain pour livraison en août ont baissé de 0,5 % à $4,077.50. L'or est désormais en passe d'enregistrer une quatrième baisse mensuelle consécutive, perdant 10,4 % sur la période.

Ces dernières pertes font suite à de nouvelles frappes de Washington et de Téhéran ce week-end. L'Iran a lancé des missiles et des drones contre des sites militaires américains au Bahreïn et au Koweït après que le président Donald Trump a mis en garde contre de graves conséquences si l'Iran ne respectait pas un accord visant à mettre fin au conflit. Plus tard, Axios a rapporté que les deux pays avaient convenu de suspendre les hostilités et de reprendre les discussions sur le détroit d'Ormuz.

Selon les analystes, la hausse des prix du pétrole pourrait maintenir l'inflation à un niveau élevé, augmentant ainsi la probabilité de nouvelles hausses de taux de la Réserve fédérale. Les marchés tablent actuellement sur trois hausses de taux de la Fed cette année, avec environ 80 % de chances d'une autre hausse en décembre.

Les investisseurs se concentrent désormais sur le rapport ADP sur l'emploi et les données sur les créations d'emplois non agricoles (NFP) aux États-Unis cette semaine, qui pourraient orienter les attentes concernant la politique future de la Fed. Selon Tim Waterer, analyste chez KCM Trade, l'or pourrait revenir au niveau de $5,000 plus tard cette année si les tensions géopolitiques s'apaisent, si le pétrole revient aux niveaux d'avant-guerre et si le dollar américain s'affaiblit.

Réaction du marché

Les prix du pétrole ont grimpé, l'or a faibli, l'argent a chuté de 1,2 % à $58.47, tandis que le platine a gagné 0,2 % et le palladium a progressé de 0,4 %.
