De nouveaux efforts diplomatiques apaisent les craintes immédiates de conflit supplémentaire, faisant baisser les prix du pétrole alors que les investisseurs attendent la suite des événements.

Le président américain Donald Trump a déclaré que les négociations avec l'Iran débuteraient lundi, ravivant l'espoir que la diplomatie puisse aider à apaiser les tensions au Moyen-Orient. Tout en confirmant les discussions, Trump a refusé de fixer une date limite pour parvenir à un accord ou de révéler le lieu de la rencontre.

S'adressant aux journalistes à bord d'Air Force One dimanche, Trump a indiqué que les négociations commenceraient lundi après-midi, sans toutefois préciser les participants ni le lieu.

Ses commentaires font suite à une publication sur Truth Social samedi, où il affirmait que l'Iran et d'autres pays du Moyen-Orient avaient demandé plus de temps pour finaliser un accord qui conduirait à la réouverture immédiate du détroit d'Ormuz et répondrait aux préoccupations concernant le programme nucléaire de l'Iran. Trump a également exhorté Téhéran à « conclure rapidement un ACCORD ».

Lorsqu'on lui a demandé si l'Iran faisait face à une date limite pour parvenir à un accord, Trump a évité d'en fixer une.

« Je préférerais conclure un accord », a déclaré Trump, ajoutant qu'il ne souhaitait pas que d'autres personnes meurent alors que le conflit se poursuit.

Cette nouvelle offensive diplomatique intervient après des mois de tensions croissantes. Trump a averti à plusieurs reprises de nouvelles actions militaires tout en tendant la main pour des négociations, bien que les cycles précédents n'aient pas permis d'aboutir à un accord global.

Pendant ce temps, le ministre iranien des Affaires étrangères, Abbas Araqchi, s'est entretenu par téléphone lors d'appels distincts avec le ministre saoudien des Affaires étrangères, le prince Faisal bin Farhan, et le chef de l'armée pakistanaise, Asim Munir, selon les médias d'État iraniens, alors que les efforts diplomatiques régionaux se poursuivent.

L'agence de presse officielle iranienne IRNA a également rapporté que les négociations avec Oman concernant le détroit d'Ormuz étaient sur le point d'aboutir. Cependant, le porte-parole du ministère iranien des Affaires étrangères, Esmaeil Baghaei, a précisé que ces discussions concernaient un projet de route maritime et étaient distinctes de toute décision relative à la réouverture du détroit.

Israël a également signalé qu'il maintiendrait la pression sur Téhéran. Le ministre de l'Énergie, Eli Cohen, a déclaré qu'Israël continuerait à se coordonner étroitement avec les États-Unis et a averti qu'une action militaire resterait une option si l'Iran reprenait ses programmes nucléaires ou de missiles balistiques.

Téhéran continue de nier chercher à se doter de l'arme nucléaire.

RÉACTION DU MARCHÉ

Les prix du pétrole ont chuté de plus de 4 % au début des échanges lundi, les investisseurs saluant les signes indiquant que la diplomatie pourrait réduire le risque de nouvelles perturbations. Le détroit d'Ormuz, qui achemine habituellement environ 20 % des livraisons mondiales de pétrole et de gaz naturel liquéfié, reste une préoccupation majeure pour les marchés de l'énergie depuis l'intensification du conflit.

Tout progrès dans les discussions pourrait alléger la pression sur les approvisionnements énergétiques mondiaux et l'inflation. Pour les traders, l'évolution de la situation autour du détroit d'Ormuz reste l'un des principaux moteurs des prix du pétrole et du sentiment général du marché.
