Une marée noire massive provenant du pétrolier Caroline Bezengi a atteint le littoral d'Oman, la nappe s'étant considérablement étendue ces dernières semaines. Les spécialistes de l'environnement avertissent que le navire endommagé pourrait libérer beaucoup plus de pétrole si les efforts de sauvetage restent retardés.

Le pétrolier s'est échoué le 30 juin près d'une île située dans une réserve marine omanaise. Cette zone abrite des baleines à bosse de la mer d'Arabie et des cormorans de Socotra.

La nappe s'étend désormais sur plus de 2 000 km², selon le spécialiste des marées noires John Amos, après être passée d'environ 45 km² fin juillet à 600 km² début août.

L'agence environnementale d'Oman a déclaré que jusqu'à 40 km de côtes près de Ras Madraka et de l'île de Masirah pourraient être touchés.

Le pétrolier de 25 ans, qui transportait environ 800 000 barils de pétrole russe, fait l'objet de sanctions internationales et ne dispose d'aucune assurance occidentale reconnue.

Réaction du marché

L'ampleur de la marée noire pourrait accentuer la pression sur les marchés pétroliers si les opérations de sauvetage échouent et qu'un déversement plus important perturbe le transport maritime ou les routes d'approvisionnement régionales.

Pour les traders, l'évolution de la situation concernant le pétrolier, le transport maritime régional et l'approvisionnement en brut pourrait influencer les cours du pétrole WTI et Brent, en particulier si la marée noire affecte le transport dans la région.
