Il Brent è sceso di 1,19 dollari, o dell'1,48%, a 79,38 dollari al barile alle 04:16 GMT. All'inizio della sessione, i prezzi erano balzati a 82,30 dollari a causa delle tensioni legate ai negoziati e dei rinnovati timori per lo Stretto di Hormuz.

I funzionari statunitensi e iraniani hanno concluso il loro primo ciclo di colloqui nell'ambito di un memorandum volto a estendere una fragile tregua per altri 60 giorni. Il ministro degli Esteri iraniano Abbas Araqchi ha dichiarato che l'accordo include esenzioni per le esportazioni di petrolio e petrolchimica, lo sblocco di alcuni asset congelati e piani per sostenere la ricostruzione e lo sviluppo dell'Iran.

Gli analisti stimano che fino a 1,5 milioni di barili al giorno di greggio iraniano potrebbero infine tornare sui mercati internazionali se le restrizioni continueranno ad allentarsi.

Nel frattempo, secondo quanto riferito, la scorsa settimana più di 25 milioni di barili di petrolio iraniano sono transitati attraverso le rotte di navigazione del Golfo. Anche gli Emirati Arabi Uniti, il Kuwait e l'Iraq hanno aumentato l'offerta, mentre l'Iraq pianifica di ripristinare gradualmente la produzione portandola tra 4,2 e 4,3 milioni di barili al giorno.

Il greggio Brent è sceso sotto gli 80 dollari dopo la conclusione dei colloqui, mentre il contratto WTI di agosto, più attivo, è scivolato di 21 centesimi a 75,64 dollari al barile. I trader del settore energetico hanno spostato l'attenzione dai rischi geopolitici alla prospettiva di una crescita dell'offerta più robusta.
