  • Lubetzky’s method: Create → Critique → Commit

  • Test demand, skills, competition, and economics before taking the leap.

  • Once an idea survives the test, execute with conviction.

The “Shark Tank” investor says founders should give bold ideas room to grow before deciding whether they can work.

Some of the world’s biggest businesses began as ideas people considered unrealistic. Daniel Lubetzky, founder of Kind Snacks and a “Shark Tank” investor, believes entrepreneurs should explore those ideas fully before shutting them down.

KEY DETAILS

Ahead of his “Build or Break” podcast, launching September 3, Lubetzky shared a three-step framework with Business Insider.

1. Be a curious creative

Start with unrestricted brainstorming. Put even the strangest ideas on the board and avoid filtering them too early. Lubetzky says pushing beyond conventional thinking can uncover original opportunities.

2. Be a consummate critic

Take a step back and challenge the idea. Do you have the right skills? Do customers actually want it? Do the economics make sense? Can competitors do it better? Lubetzky recommends applying 20 filters to find the most creative idea you can realistically execute.

3. Be a committed crusader

If the idea survives the tough questions, stop second-guessing it and execute. Lubetzky says entrepreneurs need to switch from critic to believer once they commit.

WHY IT MATTERS

Kind, Airbnb and Ring all began with ideas that could have sounded far-fetched. For entrepreneurs, the lesson is simple: dream widely, test ruthlessly, then act decisively.

The next big idea may sound strange at first. What matters is whether it can survive scrutiny, and whether someone is willing to build it.
