Startup Takes Aim at Boeing and Airbus With Radical New Aircraft Design

โดย

A California startup is betting a bold new aircraft could cut fuel use by up to 50% and reshape the future of commercial aviation.

JetZero is building a full-size blended-wing aircraft in California's Mojave Desert as it prepares for a major test flight by the end of 2027. If successful, the project could challenge the dominance of Boeing and Airbus in one of aviation's most valuable markets.

KEY DETAILS

The aircraft combines the wings and fuselage into a single lifting body, a design the company says could reduce fuel consumption by as much as 50%.

JetZero's demonstrator is backed by a $235 million U.S. Air Force program and is being built by Scaled Composites, using Pratt & Whitney engines already found on the Boeing 757.

The startup plans to launch its first commercial aircraft around 2030, targeting the 200-270 seat market once dominated by Boeing's 757 and 767. The design also offers wider cabin layouts, larger windows, quieter operation, and potential military applications.

JetZero has already attracted support from United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Northrop Grumman, and RTX. Earlier this year, the company raised $175 million, with another funding round planned before the end of 2026. A public listing could follow by 2028.

MARKET REACTION

The announcement highlights growing investor interest in aerospace innovation as airlines search for more fuel-efficient aircraft. Aviation suppliers and defense companies linked to the project could remain in focus, while the broader market watches whether new challengers can disrupt the long-standing Boeing-Airbus duopoly.

WHY IT MATTERS

For investors and traders, JetZero represents a high-risk, high-reward bet on next-generation aviation. The planned 2027 demonstration flight could become a major catalyst for funding, airline orders, and future aerospace valuations.

The biggest milestone now is the first flight, expected by the end of 2027. A successful demonstration would strengthen JetZero's path toward certification, commercial production, and potentially becoming the first serious new competitor to Boeing and Airbus in decades.
