Historischer Zinsentscheid der BOJ versetzt Händler weltweit in Alarmbereitschaft

Japans Zentralbank hat eine weitere Zinserhöhung vorgenommen und damit signalisiert, dass der Kampf gegen steigende Preise noch lange nicht vorbei ist.

Die Bank of Japan (BOJ) hat am Dienstag die Leitzinsen auf den höchsten Stand seit 31 Jahren angehoben und ihren Leitzins von 0,75 % auf 1 % erhöht. Der Schritt war weithin erwartet worden und markiert einen weiteren Schritt weg von der ultralockeren Geldpolitik, die Japans Wirtschaft über Jahrzehnte hinweg geprägt hat.

Die Entscheidung fällt zu einem Zeitpunkt, an dem sich die politischen Entscheidungsträger auf den Inflationsdruck konzentrieren, der durch die höheren Energiekosten infolge des Iran-Konflikts angeheizt wird, auch wenn ein jüngst geschlossenes Friedensabkommen zwischen den USA und dem Iran die Sorgen vor einem tieferen wirtschaftlichen Schock abgemildert hat.

Die BOJ stimmte mit 7:1 Stimmen dafür, ihren kurzfristigen Leitzins auf 1 % anzuheben, den höchsten Stand seit 1995. Der stellvertretende Gouverneur Shinichi Uchida leitete die Pressekonferenz im Anschluss an die Sitzung, während Gouverneur Kazuo Ueda die Sitzung wegen einer medizinischen Behandlung verpasste.

Die Zentralbank erklärte, die Risiken für das Wirtschaftswachstum durch den Nahostkonflikt hätten sich dank alternativer Energiequellen verringert. Gleichzeitig geben die Unternehmen die höheren Ölkosten zunehmend an die Verbraucher weiter, was zu einem breiteren Inflationsdruck in der gesamten Wirtschaft führt.

Vorstandsmitglied Toichiro Asada stimmte als einziger dagegen und argumentierte, dass die Wachstumsrisiken nach wie vor größer seien als die Inflationssorgen.

Die BOJ kündigte außerdem an, dass sie den weiteren Abbau von Anleihekäufen ab April 2027 aussetzen und weiterhin monatlich Staatsanleihen im Wert von rund 2 Billionen Yen (12,5 Milliarden US-Dollar) erwerben wird.

Marktreaktion

Die japanischen Aktienmärkte begrüßten die Entscheidung. Der Nikkei 225 stieg um bis zu 1 % und erreichte einen neuen Rekordwert von über 70.000 Punkten.

Der Yen legte nach der Ankündigung zunächst zu, schwächte sich dann jedoch auf 160,29 pro US-Dollar ab und blieb damit in der Nähe von Niveaus, die eine offizielle Währungsintervention auslösen könnten.

Analysten erklärten, die Anleger seien erleichtert darüber, dass die BOJ keine größere Anhebung um 50 Basispunkte erörtert habe, was die Erwartung untermauere, dass künftige Zinserhöhungen schrittweise erfolgen werden.
