Im vergangenen Monat kündigte der in Mailand ansässige Kreditgeber eine unverbindliche Vereinbarung über den Verkauf von Teilen seines russischen Geschäfts an einen privaten Investor mit Sitz in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten an. Die Bank plant, nur ihr Zahlungsverkehrsgeschäft in Russland zu behalten.

Riccardo Orcel war zuvor stellvertretender CEO der VTB-Gruppe und stellvertretender Vorsitzender von VTB Capital. Er verließ Russland im Jahr 2022, nachdem westliche Sanktionen gegen die VTB verhängt worden waren.

UniCredit sieht sich nach dem Einmarsch Moskaus in der Ukraine einem wachsenden Druck der Aufsichtsbehörden ausgesetzt, ihre Präsenz in Russland zu reduzieren.
