Perus Fischereiindustrie befürchtet nun, dass die Exporte das diesjährige Ziel von 5 Milliarden Dollar verfehlen könnten, nachdem sie 2025 noch 4,6 Milliarden Dollar erreicht hatten. Die industrielle Fischerei ging in den ersten fünf Monaten des Jahres 2026 ebenfalls um 31 % zurück, während die Landwirtschaft aufgrund der höheren Temperaturen nur ein Wachstum von 0,4 % verzeichnete.

Um sich auf heftige Regenfälle und wetterbedingte Schäden vorzubereiten, hat der peruanische Kongress am 15. Juli eine Budgeterhöhung von 2,8 Milliarden Dollar für Infrastruktur und Notfallmaßnahmen genehmigt. Landwirtschaftliche Erzeuger argumentieren jedoch, dass diese Bemühungen immer noch unzureichend sind.

Peru exportierte 2025 landwirtschaftliche Produkte im Rekordwert von 15,1 Milliarden Dollar, aber die Branchengruppe AGAP schätzt, dass El Niño in diesem Jahr fast 1 Milliarde Dollar an erwarteten Exporteinnahmen zunichte machen könnte.
