Una ola de nuevos fondos se apresura a capturar el momento de la oferta pública inicial (OPI) de SpaceX, pero los analistas advierten que la economía espacial sigue siendo un nicho concurrido que se hace pasar por un mercado amplio.

En tan solo el último mes, estos fondos han atraído $1.300 millones de dólares en nuevas entradas, lo que ha elevado el total de activos bajo gestión a $3.300 millones de dólares; sigue siendo un rincón de nicho del mercado, pero está creciendo lo suficientemente rápido como para llamar la atención de Wall Street.

Hasta este año, el Procure Space ETF (UFO), lanzado en 2019, era la única opción puramente especializada para los inversores que deseaban exponerse a la economía espacial en lugar de al sector aeroespacial y de defensa en general. Eso cambió cuando SpaceX dio señales de una OPI en 2026. 

Solo en los últimos tres meses se han lanzado seis nuevos fondos. El más nuevo, Tema Space Innovators ETF (NASA), atrajo $1.270 millones de dólares en solo siete semanas, más que los $972 millones de dólares de UFO a lo largo de siete años. VanEck (WARP) y Corgi Space and Satellite (DIPR) debutaron con días de diferencia a principios de mayo y ya han recaudado juntos $13,6 millones de dólares. 

Se esperan al menos dos más antes del anticipado debut de SpaceX a mediados de junio, con fondos específicos de SpaceX apalancados y enfocados en ingresos que ya han sido presentados ante la SEC.

Reacción del mercado

Esto no es solo revuelo por SpaceX: las acciones del sector se estaban moviendo mucho antes de cualquier anuncio de OPI. Rocket Lab (RKLB) ha subido un 393% en los últimos 12 meses. AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) ha ganado un 258%. El propio UFO ha rentado un 133,6% en el último año y un 49% en lo que va del año, una fuerte reversión de cuando Morningstar lo calificó como el peor lanzamiento de ETF de 2019.

Por qué es importante para los operadores

La OPI de SpaceX podría ser un evento de liquidez importante para el sector y probablemente traerá una nueva ola de interés minorista. El CEO de UFO, Andrew Chanin, define la economía espacial como "una caseta de peaje en la autopista de la IA": los satélites y los centros de datos potencialmente orbitales se están convirtiendo en infraestructura esencial para el próximo ciclo de comunicaciones. Esa tesis está ganando terreno, ya que dos tercios de las entradas totales de UFO se produjeron en solo los últimos 12 meses.

Qué vigilar

La esperada OPI de SpaceX a mediados de junio es el catalizador obvio. Esté atento a los dos lanzamientos adicionales de ETF que se esperan antes de esa fecha, además de cualquier producto apalancado o de ingresos vinculado directamente a las acciones de SpaceX.
