Subscribers of YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream have until September to file a claim for a share of the proposed $50 million settlement.
Millions of current and former YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream subscribers may qualify for compensation under a proposed $50 million settlement involving The Walt Disney Company. The filing deadline is approaching, giving eligible customers only a limited time to submit a claim.
Disney agreed to settle the lawsuit without admitting any wrongdoing.
KEY DETAILS
The class-action lawsuit was filed in federal court in 2022 by YouTube TV subscribers. The complaint claimed Disney used its influence over popular networks, including ESPN, to require streaming providers to include those channels in basic subscription packages.
According to the lawsuit, those agreements reduced competition, prevented lower-priced streaming bundles, and contributed to higher costs for consumers. Disney has denied the allegations.
The proposed settlement covers customers who paid for YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026.
Eligible subscribers can submit claims online or by mail, with the deadline set for September 8, 2026. The settlement still requires final court approval, with a hearing scheduled for January 14, 2027.
Individual payments have not yet been determined. Compensation will depend on how long each claimant subscribed and the total number of approved claims.
The next key milestone is the court's final approval hearing in January 2027. Until then, eligible subscribers should make sure to submit their claims before the September 8 deadline to avoid missing out on potential compensation.
